As a Director and Chair of the Board Audit and Risk Committee, and ultimate guardian of the brand, I want real confidence that when a crisis occurs, the executive can competently manage the situation, care for the workforce, protect the brand and reputation, and recover quickly to achieve the best possible outcomes. I want the executive to recognise crisis management as a core competence and regularly conduct practice simulations to exercise their skills.

It’s important that the real crisis management and business continuity capability matches the existing and emerging risk scenarios that concern us the most. Where we are at most risk I want to know there is a robust response and recovery capability and it’s well maintained.

I don’t want our team to rely on paper plans, I need them rehearsed, agile, match fit, confident, and ready to go at a moment’s notice.

I’m not interested in bureaucratic and administrative outputs.

I want pragmatic, dynamic, simple, and effective solutions that will work in a real crisis.
