As a Director and Chair of the Board Audit and Risk Committee, and ultimate guardian of the brand, I want real confidence that when a crisis occurs, the executive can competently manage the situation, care for the workforce, protect the brand and reputation, and recover quickly to achieve the best possible outcomes. I want the executive to recognise crisis management as a core competence and regularly conduct practice simulations to exercise their skills.
It’s important that the real crisis management and business continuity capability matches the existing and emerging risk scenarios that concern us the most. Where we are at most risk I want to know there is a robust response and recovery capability and it’s well maintained.
It’s not a manner of when, not if, and failure is not an option.
Chief Executive
As the CEO, I want my leadership team to be match fit at all times and be capable of quickly mobilising to respond to any situation.
I need genuine confidence that my team can make good decisions in a period of stress and uncertainty, look after our people, communicate effectively with all our stakeholders, and recover critical business functions as quickly as possible.
I don’t want our team to rely on paper plans, I need them rehearsed, agile, match fit, confident, and ready to go at a moment’s notice.
I’m not interested in bureaucratic and administrative outputs.
I want pragmatic, dynamic, simple, and effective solutions that will work in a real crisis.
Chief Risk Officer
As the CRO, I’m responsible for Business Continuity Management and I want to partner with an experienced specialist consultant with a proven track record to add value to our program. The consultant needs to really understand our industry, the issues we face, and can reliably support my team through the BCM maturity process.
I need confidence that we adopt appropriate BCM best practices, implement practical solutions that will really work in a crisis and compare favourably to our peer organisations.
It’s important that the consultant can work well with our people at all levels, brings fresh and innovative ideas and makes best use of our internal resources to optimise knowledge transfer, self-sufficiency and value for money.
